Zara Larsson criticises ICE, affirms support for immigrants, criminals, trans people and more

Zara Larsson has become the latest public figure to criticise Immigration and Customs Enforcement following the fatal shooting of a Minnesota resident on January 7, 2026.

The Swedish pop singer joined other celebrities, including Grammy winners and former athletes, who have spoken out about the incident and reflected on broader political and social concerns.

Larsson shared a series of posts on Instagram Stories outlining the people and causes she supports, before explicitly condemning ICE. “I love immigrants … criminals … trans people,” the post read. “I love abortions … queers … slutty women … contraception.” She added, “I love welfare … socialism,” before concluding, “I f**cking hate ICE.”

In a follow-up post, Larsson said she had received a large number of direct messages from people describing immigrants as “criminals.” She went on to explain that she is unable to see her boyfriend as often as she would like because he cannot travel to the United States due to a past conviction. The singer said the issue stemmed from a marijuana-related offence several years ago.

“We spend months and months apart every year because of a little spliff over 6 years ago,” she wrote. “I’m not saying it should be legal … wait … yes I am.”

Larsson also criticised the incarceration of people of colour for non-violent crimes and accused ICE of harmful behaviour. “IDK about yall, but I’d rather have someone smoking crack on my couch than a f**cking ICE agent ewwwwwwwwww,” she said, later describing agents as “killing, kidnapping, violent, hateful ones.”

The comments followed the death of Minneapolis resident Renee Good. Video footage circulating online shows an ICE agent approaching Good’s vehicle during a tense encounter. As she attempted to drive away, the agent opened fire, killing her at the scene. Federal officials have said the agent believed the vehicle was being used as a weapon, a claim disputed by Democratic leaders.
