ISLAMABAD  –  Eminent Urdu poet and travelogue writer Ibn-e-Insha, celebrated for his simple yet profound poetic style was remembered on his 48th death anniversary on Sunday as media outlets and fans paid tribute by sharing his timeless poetry across social media platforms.  Ibn-e-Insha’s real name was Sher Muhammad Khan. He was born in 1927 in the Jalandhar district of Indian Punjab.  Insha began his literary career with the poem ‘Chand Nagar’. He later remained associated with the daily Anjam Karachi and the daily Jang, and served for a long period as director of the National Book Council.  His notable poetry collections include ‘Dil-e-Wehshi’ and ‘Is Basti Kay Ik Koochey Main’ and he also authored novels. His poetry was marked by simplicity and depth while his widespread popularity stemmed largely from his humorous poetry and columns. His notable humorous works include Khumar-e-Gandum and Urdu Ki Aakhri Kitaab. In recognition of his literary services, he was awarded with the Presidential Pride of Performance in 1978. Owing to his remarkable contributions to both prose and poetry, Ibn-e-Insha holds a prominent place in Urdu literature. His poetry, columns and travelogues were immensely popular, with his distinctive style making his writings an authentic and lasting reference. Ibn-e-Insha passed away on January 11, 1978, during medical treatment in London and was later laid to rest in Karachi.
