Balochistan Orders DNA Tests, Action Against Illegal Child Nurseries

The Balochistan government has launched a province-wide crackdown on unlicensed child nurseries after a shocking child exchange incident surfaced in Quetta, raising serious concerns about child safety and regulatory oversight in early childcare facilities.

Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar on Saturday termed the alleged exchange of a child at a private nursery in Quetta as “deeply troubling,” warning that such negligence threatens parents’ trust and children’s safety. He ordered an immediate investigation and referred the case to the Balochistan Healthcare Commission to ensure transparency and accountability.

“To establish the child’s identity and uncover the truth, DNA testing has been ordered,” Kakar said, adding that the affected family must receive justice without delay.

Following the incident, authorities have been directed to inspect all childcare and nursery facilities across Balochistan, with a focus on registration status, staffing, and safety protocols. Nurseries operating illegally or failing to meet required standards will be shut down, while owners may face legal action.

The health minister reiterated a zero-tolerance policy, stating that no compromise would be made when it comes to child protection.

Private nurseries have rapidly increased in urban areas of Balochistan, often operating without proper licenses or oversight. The recent incident has intensified public concern, prompting the government to accelerate licensing procedures and enforce long-neglected regulations.

The accompanying file photo represents a typical childcare setting in the province, highlighting the importance of secure and regulated environments for young children amid rising safety concerns.

“This government is committed to restoring parents’ confidence and ensuring children are protected in safe, well-regulated environments,” Kakar said, confirming that monitoring and enforcement will continue to prevent similar incidents in the future.
