Jameela Jamil slams Jorginho for mishandling Chappell Roan incident after footballer’s apology

Roan faced criticism after her security guard allegedly confronted Jorginho’s 11-year-old daughter in Brazil

Actor and activist Jameela Jamil has criticised footballer Jorginho Frello for his handling of a recent incident involving singer Chappell Roan, describing his response as irresponsible and harmful, according to social media posts shared publicly.

Jamil’s comments followed Jorginho’s updated statement addressing an incident at a hotel during Lollapalooza Brazil, where his wife Catherine Harding and Jude Law’s 11-year-old daughter were reportedly approached by a security guard.

The footballer initially suggested the guard was linked to Roan and that the confrontation left the child distressed, prompting widespread online criticism directed at the singer. Roan responded, stating she was unaware of the situation and that her security team was not involved.

In his later clarification, Jorginho said he “regrets the impact” of his earlier claims and described the situation as a “misunderstanding”. He acknowledged that Roan had no knowledge of the incident and that the security guard involved was not part of her team.

Responding to the apology, Jamil criticised what she characterised as a failure to take full accountability for the consequences of the original claims. She wrote, “Maybe try ‘I regret making a public statement without all of the information that lead to a two week global hate campaign, and pile on of a young woman who was not in any way involved with the incident.’”

She continued, “I apologize for throwing this young woman under the bus and for taking so long to correct the narrative and intervene. I am a grown man, who understands the nature of fame, who should have behaved more responsibly.”

Jorginho has since said he considers the matter closed and has urged the public to show respect, while Jamil’s comments have added to ongoing discussion about accountability and online reactions.
