‘One Battle After Another’, Michael B. Jordan, Jessie Buckley win top prizes


The ceremony also produced a rare tie in the Best Live Action Short Film category

The 98th Academy Awards took place on March 15, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the ceremony celebrated a wide range of films, with One Battle After Another dominating the ceremony by winning six awards including Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson.

Acting honours went to Jessie Buckley for Hamnet and Michael B. Jordan for Sinners. Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons, while Sean Penn took Best Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners also secured major wins including Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Score.

Elsewhere, KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature, Sentimental Value won Best International Feature, and Mr Nobody Against Putin claimed Best Documentary Feature.

Best Sound — F1, Gareth John, Al Nelson, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Gary A Rizzo and Juan Peralta

Best Visual Effects — Avatar: Fire and Ash, Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon and Daniel Barrett

Best Production Design — Frankenstein, Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau

Best Casting — One Battle After Another, Cassandra Kulukundis

Best Make-up and Hairstyling — Frankenstein, Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel and Cliona Furey

Best Costume Design — Frankenstein, Kate Hawley

Best Animated Short — The Girl Who Cried Pearls

Best Live Action Short — The Singers (tie) and Two People Exchanging Saliva (tie)

Best Documentary Short — All the Empty Rooms
