Veteran actor Shujaat Hashmi passes away

LAHORE – Renowned actor and voice artist Shujaat Hashmi passed away in Lahore, after a prolonged illness. Considered as one of the senior figures in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, Shujaat Hashmi earned widespread acclaim for his work in both television and film. Throughout his career, Shujaat Hashmi left a lasting mark with his acting and voice work, appearing in notable films such as ‘Khaak Aur Khoon’, ‘Sohra Tay Javai’, and ‘Babul Dian Galian’ and famous television serial ‘Waris’. His contributions to the arts were formally recognized by the Government of Pakistan, which awarded him the Pride of Performance.
President Zardari condoles death of Shujaat Hashmi
President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the passing of renowned actor and voice artist Shujaat Hashmi, paying tribute to his remarkable contributions to Pakistan’s cultural and entertainment landscape. The president described Hashmi as one of the prominent artists of the golden era of Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television, acknowledging his enduring legacy in radio, television, theatre and film, a condolence message issued from the Presidency said. President Zardari particularly highlighted Hashmi’s memorable performance in the iconic drama serial Waris, saying his timeless acting in the classic production would always be remembered by audiences. He noted that the late artist played an important role in promoting Pakistan’s national cultural heritage through his work across multiple artistic platforms, leaving a lasting impact on the country’s entertainment industry. “The artistic services of Shujaat Hashmi will always remain alive in history,” the president said, adding that the nation had lost a talented and dedicated performer.
President Zardari also prayed for the elevation of the departed soul’s ranks and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, wishing them strength and patience in this difficult time.
