Sir Ganga Ram’s historic haveli restoration on the cards: Commissioner



FAISALABAD  –  Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar on Sunday said that steps would be taken to restore the historic haveli and other heritage sites associated with Sir Ganga Ram in Chak No.591-GB Gangapur Bachiana, Tehsil Jaranwala, to preserve the legacy of one of the subcontinent’s renowned philanthropists and development pioneers. The Divisional Commissioner accompanied by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Captain (Retired) Nadeem Nasir visited the village and toured Sir Ganga Ram’s historic haveli, surrounding gardens and other notable locations. During visit, they also met local residents and discussed the measures for preserving the historical significance of the area. Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar said that restoration of the haveli and related heritage structures would help introduce the young generation to the remarkable contributions of Sir Ganga Ram who played a significant role in welfare and development initiatives across the subcontinent. Such historical landmarks should be preserved to keep alive the memory of personalities who rendered valuable services to the society, he added. He said that providing quality municipal services to the residents of Ganga Ram village was also a priority for the administration. In this regard, the efforts would be made to secure approval for a development package for improving civic facilities and infrastructure in the locality, he added. Later, the Divisional Commissioner along with Member Provincial Assembly Sardar Bahadur Khan Dogar also visited orchards spread over a vast area in the village. He directed the Assistant Commissioner Jaranwala to ensure proper maintenance and care of the orchards so that their agricultural and environmental value could be preserved. Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir and other officials accompanying the Divisional Commissioner assured that the district administration would take practical steps to protect historical and cultural heritage of the area while also addressing the development needs of local residents.
