Singer Mazhar Rahi connecting youth with culture to revive folk music

LAHORE  –  Hailing from the soil of Punjab, Mazhar Rahi, the celebrated ‘Bhangra King’ of the music industry, has once again captured the hearts of fans with his timeless melodies.  Known for his powerful voice and profound connection to Punjabi culture, Rahi’s recent hit, ‘Lahore Brand’, has skyrocketed to fame with over 86 million views. His journey, shaped by struggles and passion, serves as an inspiring tale of an artist’s evolution in a changing world. In a talk with mediamen here on Sunday, the singer shared his views on the importance of preserving traditional music while embracing modern trends. He believes that Bhangra, more than just a musical style, is an ancient tradition that reflects the heart of Punjab. He urges young artists not to forsake their cultural heritage for fleeting modernity but to fuse the old with the new, a vision he brings to life in his upcoming albums. “I’m going to release a blend of classic and contemporary music in my next albums,” Rahi states with excitement. “It’s important to stay true to the essence of Punjab while innovating with modern sounds.”  Mazhar Rahi’s ability to blend traditional beats with contemporary tunes has made him a standout figure in the Bhangra genre. Known for his simplicity, clarity, and pure Punjabi accent, his music reflects the soul of rural Punjab. His success story isn’t just about fame—it’s about his passion for keeping the spirit of Punjab alive through music. With hits like “Aj Saday Naal, Kal Kethe Horni” and “Sano Pata Tere Dil Vich Chor Nee,” Rahi quickly gained recognition among music lovers, particularly in rural Punjab and on platforms like YouTube. His wedding anthems, such as the chart-topping “Bade Chawan Naal Sajaya Phalan Da Sehra Laade Da Sehra,” have become the soundtrack to celebrations, not only in Pakistan but in India and other parts of the world. Mazhar Rahi is also committed to nurturing the future of Punjabi music. With over 10 albums to his name, he has proven himself not only as a singer but as a complete artist—writing his own lyrics, composing his tracks, and performing them with unmatched energy.

He is currently working on new songs, including “Veere Di Shadi,” “Gangster,” and “Underground,” promising fresh melodies with a fusion of modern instruments and traditional beats. While Rahi acknowledges the challenges faced by folk music artists, he is optimistic about the future of Punjabi music. He believes that with the right platforms and recognition, Punjabi music can claim the global stage, just as Bollywood music has done. His advice to budding artists is simple yet profound: “Hard work, dedication, and a unique identity are what make you stand out. Don’t chase trends, let your art speak for itself.”  Mazhar Rahi’s vision for the future is clear: to keep Bhangra alive and thriving, not just in Punjab but on a global scale. As he prepares to release more music, there’s no doubt that the legacy of Punjab’s folk music will continue to live on, thanks to this talented artist.
