Hailey Bieber Reveals PMDD Struggles After Son’s Birth

Hailey Bieber has revealed that she experienced premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) following the birth of her son, Jack Blues, highlighting the importance of open conversations about women’s health.
The founder of beauty brand Rhode, who is married to singer Justin Bieber, told Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) that she struggled with the condition after welcoming her son in August 2024.
“After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” she said.
PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), with symptoms that can include anxiety, panic attacks, depression, insomnia, fatigue and mood swings.
Explaining her decision to speak publicly about the condition, Bieber said discussing such experiences could help others feel less isolated.
She said greater openness about women’s health issues “makes it feel like less of a lonely journey.”
Her remarks follow earlier disclosures about her health during an appearance on the Therapuss podcast this year.
Bieber recalled suffering a “mini stroke” in 2022, describing the experience as a serious medical emergency.
“A couple of years ago, I had a crazy medical situation,” she said.
She also revealed that she was born with a congenital heart defect known as patent foramen ovale, which required a medical procedure performed through the groin.
According to Bieber, the procedure allowed her to return home the same day.
She said the experience had made her “hyper aware” of her body and contributed to feelings of anxiety about her health.
Bieber also linked her interest in health and medicine to the inspiration behind her beauty brand, Rhode.
The company has pledged $5 million over three years to the Foundation for Women’s Health to support research into women’s health issues.
Bieber sold Rhode to e.l.f. Beauty in 2025 in a deal valued at $1 billion.
