Presley Gerber underwent psychedelic drug treatment in Mexico months before his death at the age of 27.

The son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber died on Sunday at a rehabilitation facility. His official cause of death has not been announced.

In March, Gerber shared a video documenting a “pre Ibogaine Flood Dose” in Cancun, Mexico.

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychedelic that has drawn attention for its potential use in treating substance use disorders, particularly opioid and alcohol dependence.

Reflecting on the experience, Gerber wrote: “Pre Ibogaine Flood Dose – quiet moment before everything changed.”

He described feeling frightened before the treatment and discussed his efforts to confront personal challenges and work towards recovery.

“My mantras were love yourself and lis gotta be the last time for this reason. letting go of control didn’t come easy, but I trusted there was something bigger than me guiding it. I knew why I was there.”

Gerber also expressed gratitude to the people who supported him during the experience. His mother, sister Kaia and father publicly shared messages of encouragement beneath the post.

Ibogaine is illegal in the United States, while possession and administration are permitted in Mexico.

In the UK, it remains an unlicensed experimental drug and is not available through the NHS.

Gerber, who signed with IMG Models at 15, had spoken openly about depression and substance abuse.

In a 2023 appearance on the Studio 22 podcast, he described mental health as a significant part of his life and said he wanted to help others facing similar struggles.

An autopsy had not been completed at the time og reporting.
