LAHORE  –  The 22nd death anniversary of litrary icon Ashfaq Ahmed was observed here on Monday. Ashfaq Ahmed, since his passing for being a great writer, perfect thinker and enlightened leader who was ranked of a high personality has the honour in his credit for being owner of many aspects of art, his fans still cherish his memories in their hearts. The famous writer Ashfaq Ahmed was born on August 22, 1925 in Muktsar, Ferozepur, a district of India. He taught at Dyal Singh College and Oriental College, Lahore.  He was among the renowned writers who emerged on the literary horizon immediately after the establishment of Pakistan. In 1953, his short story Gudariya brought him fame. He was also the editor of magazines- Dastan-Go and Lail-o-Nihar. His collections of short stories were published under the names of Ek Mohabbat So Afsaney, Ujlay Phool, Safar Meena, Phul-kari and Subhan Afsaney. Ek Mohabbat So Afsaney and Ujlay Phool were his early collections of short stories, later Safar Dar Safar (travelogue), Khel Kahani (novel), Ek Mohabbat So Drama (drama) and Tota Kahani (drama) were his prominent works. The Pakistan government awarded him the Presidential Medal for Excellence, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz. Ashfaq Ahmed, a Sufi, died on September 7, 2004 in Lahore and was buried in the Model Town cemetery.
