‘Euphoria’ Season 3 sets new record for Rotten Tomatoes ratings amid mixed reviews from critics

The third instalment of the drama, created by Sam Levinson, represents a notable decline from previous seasons

Euphoria Season 3 has received a 56% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its release, marking the lowest rating in the HBO series’ history, according to ScreenRant and early critic reviews.

The third instalment of the drama, created by Sam Levinson, represents a notable decline from previous seasons, with Season 2 holding 78% and Season 1 at 80%. Based on 16 reviews so far, the latest season has been given a “rotten” designation, though the score may shift as more reactions are published.

Critics have largely pointed to changes in narrative direction and character development as key concerns. The storyline moves beyond high school, with characters entering adulthood, a shift that some reviewers argue reduces the show’s focus and emotional impact.

In a review for ScreenRant, critic Graeme Guttmann rated the season four out of 10, noting issues with pacing and coherence.

Despite criticism, performances remain a strong point, particularly that of Zendaya as Rue Bennett. Reviews from outlets including The Hollywood Reporter, IndieWire and the BBC similarly praised her role while expressing concerns about the show’s evolving themes.

The new season features returning cast members such as Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer, while also reflecting notable absences.

Euphoria Season 3 is set to premiere on April 12, with audience scores expected to follow after release.
