Balochistan govt enhances Artist Welfare Fund, urges promotion of cultural identity
QUETTA – The Balochistan government has announced an increase in the Artist Welfare Endowment Fund, with plans to double the amount in phases to support the welfare of artists across the province. The decision was made during a meeting between Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and a delegation of artist representatives, where issues faced by the artistic community and measures for their welfare were discussed in detail. It was agreed that financial assistance for government employees below Grade 16 who are also artists will continue under the Balochistan Artist Endowment Fund, ensuring relief for deserving individuals. CM Bugti reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of artists, stating that concrete and practical steps will be taken to support them. He emphasised that Balochistan’s cultural heritage reflects peace, tolerance, and love, and artists play a vital role in projecting this positive identity. “Artists must use their creative talents to present the true and positive image of Balochistan to the world, showing that it is a land of peace, culture, and love, not terrorism,” he said.
Sarfraz Bugti recalled the contributions of PTV Quetta Centre artists, whose quality dramas once brought recognition to Balochistan nationally and internationally.
He stressed that similar high-standard, value-based productions can continue to highlight the province’s enduring cultural identity.
The CM assured artists of full government support and patronage, encouraging them to work towards promoting Balochistan’s historical and cultural identity globally.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Secretary Culture, and representatives of the artist community.
