Ancient royal fort in Shahgarh reduces to ruins

MUZAFFAR GARH – In the suburban area of Shahgarh, an ancient royal fort, once of significant strategic and defensive importance has now deteriorated into ruins due to prolonged neglect and environmental impact. Historical accounts indicate that the fort was constructed using clay and sand, and its geographical positioning made it a formidable defensive structure. Situated near a river, it served as a strategic vantage point for monitoring enemy movement, making it an ideal military location in earlier times. However, persistent government neglect coupled with adverse weather conditions, particularly heavy rains has pushed this heritage site toward rapid deterioration. Large sections of the fort’s walls have collapsed, while the remaining structure is in a severely dilapidated condition. Local residents and civil society representatives have urged the authorities to take immediate and concrete measures for the restoration and preservation of this valuable national heritage, emphasizing the need to safeguard it for future generations.
