Lili Reinhart reveals shocking on-set comment from director about her body

When asked about an acting note she had taken personally, Reinhart described a moment that stood out

Lili Reinhart has spoken about an on-set experience in which she says a director made a comment about her appearance, highlighting ongoing concerns about body image pressures within the entertainment industry.

The Riverdale actress shared the incident during a video interview with Cosmopolitan alongside her Forbidden Fruits co-stars Lola Tung, Alexandra Shipp and Victoria Pedretti. When asked about an acting note she had taken personally, Reinhart described a moment that stood out.

“When I had a male director come up to me and silently lean over and go, ‘Just suck in your stomach a little bit,’” she said. Her co-star Pedretti reacted during the discussion, responding, “Oh my God. What is his name and what is his address?”

Reinhart did not identify the director or specify the production where the incident took place. However, her comments have added to broader discussions about expectations placed on actors, particularly regarding physical appearance.

The actress has previously been open about her experiences with body image. In earlier interviews, she spoke about living with body dysmorphia and the impact of public scrutiny on her self-perception. She has linked some of these challenges to her work in the industry.

Reflecting on her experiences in 2022, Reinhart wrote, “I didn’t think being in this industry, that is so obsessed with women’s bodies and weights, could ever mess with my own body acceptance and positivity… but it has.”

She also revealed in a 2025 interview that she developed an eating disorder while filming Riverdale, explaining that “99% of my thoughts were about my body“ during one period of production.

Her recent comments have renewed attention on the pressures faced by performers and the ongoing conversation around standards of appearance in film and television.
