Anne Hathaway kicks off ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ press tour with playful nod to Miranda Priestly

Hathaway references iconic cerulean scene as she begins ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ press tour ahead of May release

Anne Hathaway has kicked off the press tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2, making a nod to her character’s origins in the original film.

The actress, 43, wore a cerulean blue sweatshirt, referencing a memorable scene from the 2006 movie in which her character Andy Sachs is berated by Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, for wearing the colour without knowing its history.

The sweatshirt, styled by Ashley Afriyie, features a large blue Pantone square with the word “ceruleo” written underneath. “#CeruleanBlue has entered the chat,” Afriyie captioned the post.

In the original scene, Priestly tells Andy that the sweater is “not just blue, it’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis, it’s actually cerulean,” before sharing the history behind the colour’s use by fashion designers. The scene has become iconic, and fans immediately recognized the reference.

Hathaway previously referenced the scene while teasing that filming for the sequel was underway, wearing a cerulean blue sweater in a TikTok video.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 will reportedly follow Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing, with Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci returning.

The sequel, which promises to be a fresh take on the original, with Blunt’s character, a high-powered executive, clashing with Priestly, hits theaters on May 1.
