‘Fruit Love Island’ creator threatens cancellation amid criticism and content removals
The series reimagines the reality dating format ‘Love Island’ using anthropomorphic fruit characters
The future of the viral AI series Fruit Love Island has been thrown into doubt after its creator indicated the show could be cancelled following repeated content removals and mounting criticism online.
The series, which reimagines the reality dating format Love Island using anthropomorphic fruit characters, rapidly gained popularity across TikTok. The account behind the show, ai.cinema021, reportedly attracted more than three million followers within weeks as clips were widely shared for their unusual concept and fast-paced storytelling.
Concerns emerged after multiple videos were removed from TikTok, with the creator suggesting the account may have been targeted by mass reporting. Frustration was expressed through posts on TikTok and X, where the creator warned that the series could come to an end.
In a series of messages delivered through AI-generated characters, the creator wrote “No more fruit love island” and “Was a good run”, signalling that the project may have already reached its conclusion. The tone of the posts marked a departure from the show’s typically light approach, with some directly addressing criticism of AI-generated content and its environmental impact.

The situation intensified following reports that the programme’s YouTube backup channel had also been removed, limiting alternative access for viewers. The loss of content across platforms has raised concerns about how dependent such projects are on social media distribution.
The controversy has also renewed debate around AI-generated entertainment. Critics have described similar content as “AI slop”, raising questions about originality, copyright and environmental costs. Supporters, however, view the series as an example of creative experimentation within digital storytelling.
Fans have since expressed concern online, urging clarity from TikTok and calling for the series to continue. Despite the strong reaction, it remains unclear whether Fruit Love Island will be permanently discontinued.
