Punjab govt reviving family theatre: Azma Bokhari

LAHORE – Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari, in her message on the World Theatre Day, said that theatre serves as an academy for the art of acting, adding that many world-renowned artists began their careers from this platform. She highlighted the historical and unique significance of theatre in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, stating that Punjab’s theatre holds a distinct identity. She also noted that local artists are playing an important role in promoting national culture internationally, including in Western countries.
Azma Bokhari said that the government’s efforts to eliminate obscenity from theatre and restore it as “Family Theatre” have achieved considerable success. However, she stressed that directors and producers must also fulfill their responsibilities to fully accomplish this objective. She further stated that the Punjab government is taking effective and practical measures for the welfare of artists to ensure improved socioeconomic conditions for those associated with the profession.
World Theatre Day celebrated
The World Theatre Day was celebrated all over the world, including in Pakistan, on Friday. In this connection, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said that theatre has the status of an academy for the industry. Theatre also has its own historical and unique status in Pakistan. Furthermore, the theatre of Punjab has its own unique identity all over the world, she said. “Our mission is to make theatre a family theatre, and we have succeeded in this,” she added. The government is taking effective and practical steps for the welfare of artists, she said.
