Singer-songwriter Raye has revealed that a blue plaque placed outside a London pub in her honour was intended as a playful reference to a former relationship.

Fans first spotted the plaque last week outside The Nightingale pub in Tooting, South London. It appeared to commemorate a personal moment in the singer’s life and coincided with the release of her new single “Nightingale Lane”.

The plaque, styled like a traditional British heritage marker, reads: “Raye experienced the greatest heartbreak she has ever known here,” echoing the opening lyric of the song.

On Sunday evening, the chart-topping artist addressed the discovery in a TikTok video filmed outside the pub while holding a pint. In the clip, she explained that the plaque was placed there deliberately with a more personal motivation.

Posting the video online, Raye said she and her team had “put a nice plaque on my ex’s fave pub so he’ll never forget”. She captioned the video with the remark, “My dramatic era.”

The singer’s sister, fellow musician Absolutely, joined the conversation in the comments. Responding to the post, she wrote: “Being the ex of a songwriter is not for the weak. Never mind the world’s best songwriter.”

“Nightingale Lane” was released at the end of February and is the second single from Raye’s upcoming album “This Music May Contain Hope”. The five-minute ballad follows the commercial success of her recent chart-topping track “Where Is My Husband!”.

After performing the song at the Brit Awards earlier this month, “Nightingale Lane” has since climbed to a new peak of number 20 in the UK singles chart.

Raye is currently touring with her “This Tour May Contain New Music” shows, where she has been previewing material from the upcoming album. “This Music May Contain Hope” is scheduled for release on 27 March.

Later this spring, the singer will return to her hometown for two major performances at London’s O2 Arena at the end of May.
