Hetmyer Overtakes Sahibzada Farhan in Six-Hitting Race
West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer has reclaimed the record for the most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup after striking two more maximums in his latest appearance.
The tally of the left-handed hard-hitter in this tournament now stands at 19 sixes, restoring his position at the top of the leaderboard in a closely contested battle for supremacy.
The star West Indian batter had briefly lost the record to Sahibzada Farhan, who momentarily moved ahead in the six-hitting charts during the ongoing marquee tournament.
However, Hetmyer’s two sixes, struck within six balls in his most recent outing against India in the last Super Eight stage game, ensured that he moved back in front once again.
Talking about the match, India kept West Indies under pressure in Kolkata as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Shimron Hetmyer for 27 off 12 balls, halting a growing comeback.
West Indies were 102 for two in 11.3 overs when Hetmyer attempted to pull Bumrah, edged the skidding delivery onto his thigh, and UltraEdge confirmed contact despite slight hesitation.
Earlier, Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy ended Shai Hope’s slow innings of 32 from 33 balls, leaving West Indies 66 without loss after eight overs but struggling to accelerate.
India retained three overs each from Bumrah and Chakravarthy for the closing stages, while Axar Patel conceded 25 runs in three overs despite being struck for boundaries off the first deliveries.
It is pertinent to mention here that the winner of today’s game will advance to the semi-final, where they will face England in the second semi-final.
