Tribute paid to Munir Niazi

ISLAMABAD – Renowned Urdu and Punjabi poet Munir Niazi was remembered on his 19th death anniversary on Friday, as media and literary circles paid tribute to his timeless poetry and lasting contribution to literature. Born on April 9, 1923, in the city of Hoshiarpur in eastern Punjab, Munir Niazi left behind thirteen collections of poetry in Urdu and three in Punjabi. Munir Niazi produced memorable Urdu works such as Taiz Hawa Aur Tanha Phool, Jungle Mein Dhanak, and Mah-e-Munir, while his Punjabi collections Safar Di Raat, Char Chup Cheezan and Rasta Dasan Walay Teray remain deeply admired, PTV news channel reported. Beyond poetry, he also wrote songs for several films that achieved immense popularity. Munir Niazi passed away on this day in Lahore in 2006, leaving behind an enduring literary legacy.
