Fashion What's New Fashion

Danish minimalism: the hallmark of Scandinavian design

A distinctive characteristic of the fashion industry is its ability to be ever-evolving. Unfortunately, this allows the emergence of concepts focused on trends and mass production— like fast fashion. At its core, fast fashion promotes quick consumption of short-lived, trendy clothes to the detriment of the environment but as discerning customers, it falls on us to carefully consider the impact of our fashion choices, and opt for sustainable options whenever possible.

Introducing 1 People, the conscious customer’s first choice when it comes to functional, stylish products that are gentle on the planet. With a principal focus on creating a fine balance between aesthetic and the environment,
1 People was founded by
Jonathan and
Rea Tjoa Algreen, emerging from a small problem: Rea’s struggle to find clothing that was durable and complemented her style sensibilities. The couple’s commitment to creating a better world through business and mindful design stood behind their decision to curate designs based on modern yet long-lasting style research and requirements— the need for good quality, minimalist essentials. With a heavy focus on Danish-inspired, timeless designs that ooze effortless luxury, each piece was created to complement the personality of the buyer, catering to the contemporary woman of today who understands the power of minimalist, high-quality, sustainable pieces in her wardrobe,

Curated for the conscious consumerWith a pioneering commitment to sustainability, their product line includes a range of bags and accessories made from eco-friendly materials with a strong emphasis on ethical manufacturing practices. Furthermore, 1 People also works tirelessly to reduce its carbon footprint by using renewable energy sources and offsetting its remaining emissions through a CO2 reduction program.

Each of their products goes through a rigorous ‘sustainability testing’ process wherein each product’s sustainability rate is assigned a ‘Sustainability Score’ that showcases how sustainable each material is. All recycled materials start, as a rule, with a 100% sustainability score, if it is properly recycled (if the recycling process does not cause further pollution). A CO2 reduction program further takes care of all the pollution caused by global transportation and operations, and the whole process is neatly tied up after scores from each impact material are combined using a weighted average approach— producing a percentage score that they share with you!

Alternatively, 1 People’s commitment to sustainability and ethical production is not just limited to its products. The brand is a shining example of a deliberate business that is pushing the boundaries of minimalist design while prioritising the well-being of people and our planet. Available across 17 markets around the world and now available in India, their mission urges this generation of fashion lovers to think critically about sustainability and truly understand the power they wield to create change, especially while choosing a brand to buy from.
